AnswerSpinning reels decided by a random number generator. The simplest casino game, the fastest, and the one whose price varies most.
The rules in five steps
- Choose a slot and read its help screen.
- Set a stake, from about 10p.
- Press spin.
- Matching symbols pay by the paytable.
- Features such as free spins trigger at random.
Your first round
Open a slot and tap the information button. Note the RTP and what triggers the feature. Set the stake to 20p and press spin. The reels stop; if matching symbols line up according to the paytable, the win is added to your balance. Most spins return nothing or less than the stake. Now and then three scatters start the feature, which is where most of a slot's larger wins come from.
What to bet
| Bet | Pays | House edge |
|---|
| A slot at 97% RTP | Varies | 3% |
|---|
| A slot at 96% RTP | Varies | 4% |
|---|
| A slot at 94% RTP | Varies | 6% |
|---|
| A progressive slot's base game | Varies | Often higher than the headline |
|---|
Common mistakes
Not checking the RTP; staking too much for the budget; counting a win smaller than the stake as a win.
Before you play for money
- Set a deposit limit.
- Try a demo if one is offered.
- Decide a stake and a stopping point.
- Read the RTP in the help screen.
